Ear wax, also called cerumen, is a normal production from glands in the ear canal. It serves as a lubricant, antimicrobial and natural cleanser in the ear under normal conditions.
Ear wax build up, also called cerumen impaction, is when excessive ear wax blocks the ear canal. This can cause hearing loss, pain, tinnitus, dizziness and ear pressure. Blockages can occur to anyone, especially those with a family history of excessive ear wax.
