Diabetes Mellitus is a set of diseases that result from excessive glucose (sugar) in the blood.
The most common type is Type 2 Diabetes, in which the body has trouble processing excessive amounts of sugar, causing an imbalance. Risk factors include family history, obesity, high blood pressure, inactivity, smoking and poor dietary choices among others. Type I Diabetes Mellitus, also known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a chronic autoimmune disease that occurs when the body's immune system destroys the cells that generate insulin. The lack of insulin hormone causes a build-up of glucose in the blood, causing hyperglycemia (high blood sugar).

An electrocardiogram (or EKG) is a screening test that records the electrical signals in the heart and shows how the heart is beating. The standard 12-lead EKG is the medical standard, and is a vital tool in the assessment of cardiovascular disease. The EKG is the most important test for interpretation of the cardiac rhythm and detection of arrhythmias, which is when the heart beats too slowly, quickly or irregularly. The EKG can detect myocardial infarction and ischemia, conduction system abnormalities, congestive heart failure and other conditions.
Various life-threatening heart conditions can be detected on an EKG. Coronary heart disease- where the heart’s arteries and blood supply are blocked by fatty substance build-up can be detected by an EKG. An abnormal EKG may also detect a previous myocardial infarction (heart attack) or that you are at risk for one in the near future.
LifeLine Walk In Medical & Mental Health Nursing Clinic offers a professionally administered medical grade 12 lead EKG at your convenience. It is a safe, non-invasive, painless test with no major risks or complications.
