What is TB Testing?
TB skin testing, also known as the Mantoux tuberculin skin test (TST) or PPD (purified protein derivative) skin test, is a screening method for tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is a potentially dangerous infectious bacterial lung disease that is spread by airborne droplet particles from an infected individual. Many cases of tuberculosis can go undiagnosed, thus testing is required for clearance.
How it Works
Initial Visit: You will receive a simple intradermal TB skin placement and instructions.
Follow-Up Visit: A follow-up visit is required 48-72 hours after the test to check the administration site for any reaction or induration. Our staff will help you schedule this follow-up at a time that fits your schedule.
Additional Testing Options
TB Risk Assessment:
State of California screening for risk factors to determine if TB Skin Testing is required. Our staff will review the questionnaire with you and sign/stamp any necessary clearance forms.
Quantiferon TB Test: Recommended for individuals with a history of a positive TB test or those who have received the Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) vaccine in another country.
Chest X-Ray (CXR) Referral: Also recommended for individuals with a history of a positive TB test or those who have received the BCG vaccine.
The doctor's order will be provided for the chest x-ray, and the x-ray will be performed at an affiliated imaging facility in Torrance on your schedule. Results for the CXR are generally obtained in 2-3 business days electronically or by picking up the official report in our clinic.

Vaccines
Flu Vaccine: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends annual flu vaccination for everyone age 6 months or older (CDC.gov). The flu vaccine can reduce the incidence of contracting the flu, and secondary complications from the flu such as hospitalization or death.

This vaccine is billed to in-network medical insurances, just as it would at your doctors’ office.
TDAP: This vaccine is for individuals 7 years and above that protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough). The CDC recommends booster vaccines every 10 years to protect against these bacterial infections and secondary health complications.
The state of California requires a TDAP vaccine prior to entrance into the 7th grade. This vaccine is also recommended as the tetanus shot booster, indicated for those with an open wound or burn. This vaccine can be billed to in-network medical insurances, just as it would at your doctors’ office.
Typhoid Vaccine: The inactivated typhoid vaccine is administered intramuscularly, and is FDA approved for individuals 2 years and older. One dose is recommended at least 2 weeks before travel for maximum efficacy. The CDC recommends the typhoid vaccine for people traveling to endemic high-risk areas who may be exposed to contaminated food and water.
